Where I Stand
By Harrison Beckenstein
In this recent body of work, I have explored and questioned themes of three-dimensional space, the bodies that inhabit it, and the lives we lead within a man-made environment. I have aimed to capture snapshot moments in people's everyday lives, co-existing with their homes or spaces, and the relationships, memories, changes, or losses that are bound to occur within our timeline. Can physical space hold memories? Do we influence the environment, or rather, does it affect us? Through packing and unpacking from college, traveling, meeting new people, and slowly discovering myself in the past two and a half years, I have begun asking these vital questions. How much is where I stand in connection to my own self? Within the work, elements of building, reassembling/disassembling and the construction process are in synthesis with how many of my works are attached, painted or stuck onto canvas. I hope you can experience and investigate these narratives through this work as much as I have. I encourage you to reflect upon how your own experiences with certain places has influenced the person you are today.
Thank you.
